By doing it like this, you take the speed limit according to RPM out of the equation. Is is really weird that changing the setting on the display doesnt change the read out. So if you just select a lower assist mode, your current wil be a certain percentage of the 18 amps (3 amps for example in assist mode 1). Doing this will show the correct speed in mph although it shows kmph on the screen its actually mph now with this change. Its strictly a feature of the mid-drives. There are however a small batch of controllers that are flashed with firmware that wont except 52V batteries. The ebike will then just get up to the maximum speed that can be reached with that amount of power. This will result in the same behavior. Having such a high power motor connected to a belt drive is tricky in general, which could result in all sorts of trouble. So this setting can be handy for legal reasons. At first it worked strange, power jumped from 0 to max at any level, but now it works correctly. I do know that permanent magnet brushless motors like the Bafang motor most of the time will operate more efficiently at higher RPM. This behaviour can be normal, because when you accelerate, the battery voltage drops. So I tend to do this less now, therefore my drivetrain also lasts longer. Could you clarify your problem? Have you any suggestions or any details how to configure them properly? If you read all the explanations of all the parameters, you can easily create such custom settings that match your preference. Since with that much power you can easily strip gears when you dont select the right gear. If you accidentally hit the throttle while the bike is on and in assist 0, the bike wont fly off.
